Quotes to Savor, Part III

In the Saratoga City Library near my home, I noticed some quotes carved onto the ground near the entrance. Let me share some of them with you:

“I became a writer not because I went to school, but because my mother took me to the library.”
Sandra Cisneros

“A library will get you through times of no money better than money will get you through times of no libraries.”

“There are worse crimes than burning books. One of them is not reading them.”
Ray Bradbury

“Outside of a dog, the book is man’s best friend. Inside of a dog, it’s too dark to read.”
Groucho Marx

“Reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body.”
Joseph Addison.

“Information is the currency of democracy.”
Thomas Jefferson

“Knowledge is knowing ….or knowing where to find out.”
Alvin Toffler

“There are many ways to enlarge your child’s world. Love of books is the best of all.”
Jacqueline Kennedy

When you leave the library by car, a STOP sign has been erected to tell drivers to stop before merging with the main traffic. Somebody defaced the sign by making it read “Never STOP reading”. The defaced sign has not been replaced for several months now probably because the public thinks it serves two useful reminders simultaneously.
